GENERAL WARNING General Warning About Scooter Riding; Scooter riding can be a fun but yet a dangerous activity. Certain conditions may cause the equipment to fail without fault of the manufacturer. Scooters can and are intended to move and it is therefore possible to get into dangerous situations and/or lose control and/or fall. If such things occur, you can be seriously injured or die. Like any other moving product, using a scooter can be a dangerous activity and may result in injury or death even when used with proper safety precautions. Kick scooters are being used by people of all ages throughout the United States as well as around the world for commuting and for play. With their newfound popularity comes the need for safety instruction. More than 9,400 Americans, mostly children, were treated in the emergency room for kick scooter related injuries when scooters were introduced between 1999-2000. With this in mind, it is imperative that you learn how to protect yourself as well as your children to prevent injuries while still being able to enjoy the fun and convenience of riding kick scooters or trick scooters.
MESSAGE TO PARENTS An Important Message To Parents; User manual is included with your new scooter that contains important information for your child’s safety. It is your responsibility to review the enclosed "User Manual" information with your child and make sure that your child understands all warnings, cautions, instructions and safety topics. We recommend that you periodically review and reinforce the information in this manual with younger riders and that you are required to inspect and maintain your child’s scooter to insure their safety. Safety gear is a must when riding any type of scooter. Safety gear includes (1) Helmet - a well fitting bicycle helmet that meets the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines. (2) Knee, elbow and wrist pads - the same that would be used for in-line skating. If there are no wrist guards, well fitting gloves that protect the hands are a must. (3) Shoes - should be durable, sturdy and comfortable. Athletic shoes work well.
SAFETY PRIOR TO RIDING Always Inspect Scooter Prior To Riding; We require all customers to first unpack the scooter from it's original box and tighten all loose hardware prior to first use. Our scooters need to be customized for each individual, depending on the surface or environment they are in. Therefore, require tightening all hardware with repeated maintenance of any loose hardware prior to use. Properly inspecting all loose hardware and maintaining your scooter can reduce the risk of injury. Always inspect your scooter before riding and regularly maintain it for safety. Ways to prevent injuries is through proper techniques; (1) Stand straight and evenly to distribute weight on the foot plate. (2) Ride on smooth, flat surfaces, as kick scooters and trick scooters are not designed for off-road conditions. (1) NEVER; Ride with feet and body up front, hugging the T-handle. It is extremely dangerous, this may cause your balance to be thrown off, and may cause you to fall. (2) NEVER; Twist your body in a skateboard-style stance with your toes facing the side of the foot plate. That stance is not safe, nor a technique; it can be extremely dangerous when trying to control the scooter. (3) NEVER; Attempt to ride with more than one person on the scooter. Scooters are designed for one person only, unless one day we happen to invent a two person scooter. Be Sure To Always; (1) Check all locking devices, adjusting clamps and levers for the steering column and handlebars to be sure they are secure and tight prior to riding. (2) If the kick scooter or trick scooter has non-inflatable tires, check to be sure they are in good condition prior to riding. (3) Always check to test the brakes to make sure they are working properly prior to riding.
PROPER ATTIRE FOR RIDING Proper Riding Attire For Scooter Riding; Always ensure your child is wearing proper protective equipment such as an approved safety helmet. A helmet may be legally required by local law or regulation in your area. A child should always wear shoes, never ride barefooted or in sandals and keep shoelaces tied and out of the way of the wheels. CHECK LOCAL LAWS FOR USE Check Local Laws Regarding Scooter Use; Check local laws and regulations to see where and how you may use your scooter legally. In many states and local areas scooter riders are required BY LAW to wear a helmet. Check local laws and regulations regarding laws governing helmet use and scooter operation in your area. ACCEPTABLE RIDING PRACTICES Acceptable Riding Practices And Conditions; Direct parental supervision is required at all times. Scooters are meant to be used only in controlled environments free of potential traffic hazards and not on public streets. Do not allow your child to ride a scooter in any areas where vehicle traffic is present. Children must maintain a hold on the handlebars at all times. Never allow more than one child at a time to ride a scooter. Never use near steps, sloped driveways, hills, roadways, alleys or swimming pool areas. Do not ride a scooter in wet weather. Scooters are intended for use on solid, flat, clean and dry surfaces such as pavement or level ground without loose debris such as rocks or gravel. Wet, slick or uneven and rough surfaces may impair traction and contribute to possible accidents. Do not ride scooter in mud, ice, puddles or water. Avoid excessive speeds that can be associated with downhill rides. Never risk damaging surfaces such as carpet or flooring by use of a scooter indoors. Do not ride at night or when visibility is impaired. FAILURE TO USE COMMON SENSE AND HEED THE ABOVE WARNINGS FURTHER INCREASES RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND WITH APPROPRIATE AND SERIOUS ATTENTION TO SAFE OPERATION.
